Sydnie Ridley, M.S., MFT (MFT#36053)
Specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, adolescents and depression.
Sydnie Ridley, a Marriage and Family Therapist, has worked in the field of eating disorders since 1991, using her experiences, both personally and professionally, to successfully treat clients to full recovery.
Recovered from anorexia for over eighteen years, Sydnie views eating disorders as “disorders of the self” in which eating and exercise behaviors are used as “adaptive” coping mechanisms. Believing that eating disorders are not only about food and weight, but are symptomatic of deeper, more complex issues, these “adaptive functions” need to be explored and understood through an empathic relationship between the client and the therapist in order to facilitate complete recovery. Furthermore, throughout the therapeutic process, she believes it is essential to address any medical and/or nutritional issues by using a treatment team approach when appropriate. Sydnie’s specialized training includes working as the Assistant Clinical Director of the Outpatient Eating Disorders Program at Charter Hospital in Thousand Oaks, CA, and was the Assistant Clinical Director/Lead Therapist at Monte Nido Residential Treatment Facility for Anorexia and Bulimia in Malibu, CA. Furthermore, she developed, implemented, and served as the Director of the Outpatient Eating Disorders Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. In addition, she was employed as the Clinical Director for The Eating Disorder Center of California Day Treatment Program in Brentwood, CA. and worked as a consultant for Oceanaire Residential Treatment Center for Eating Disorders in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Most recently, she worked as the Clinical Director for Pathways Family Counseling Center’s Intensive Outpatient Program for Eating Disorders in Thousand Oaks, CA. Sydnie currently maintains a private practice in Los Angeles and Westlake Village, CA. and facilitates a free eating disorders support group.
Due to the reality of eating disorders reaching epidemic proportions, Sydnie has always believed in educating the public about this escalating and pervasive issue. She has presented over forty lectures to universities, schools, professional associations, hospital staff, colleagues, and the community in an effort to increase awareness and prevention. Likewise, her intensive training and experience has provided her with the opportunity to train others who also share this passion.
